Corde was commissioned to design a new Science Centre to attract new pupil scientists and replace a building that was no longer fit-for-purpose.
Regular client consultation ensured that the building was designed to meet the school’s pedagogy. Diagrams and BIM models were used to explore the relationship
between teaching styles and spaces, and were key in consolidating the brief with the project steering group. CGIs were also used in the school’s fundraising
The relationship between the new building and its Victorian setting was informed by ADP’s earlier conservation and masterplan. Located at the heart of
the school, the Science Centre is one of a family of contemporary buildings that gracefully respect their historic setting.
The early involvement of the services and structural engineers through Corde meant that any changes to the design were made early and lessons learnt.
