Corde partners ADP and AKS Warn delivered a new academic building for one of ADP's longest standing clients, the University of Sussex.
The new building, which forms a major new quadrangle on the University’s Falmer Campus, was designed in close collaboration with the landscape team to complement its surrounding iconic architecture, designed by notable British architect Sir Basil Spence.
Teaching accommodation is arranged over two flexible wings either side of a large central atrium, with bridges connecting the two sides. A café and social learning space link the main block to an adjoining 500-seat lecture theatre, which is partly submerged and provides a grass covered roof terrace for students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
Sustainability is central to the building, which achieved an 'Excellent’ rating under BREEAM Bespoke.
